PM Anwar's Direction For GE16 To Be Focus Of PH Convention Tomorrow - Fahmi

JOHOR BAHRU, May 16 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's message on preparations for the 16th general election (GE16) will be the main focus to more than 5,000 delegates at the PH 2026 Convention tomorrow.

PH communications director Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the speech is very significant in setting the machinery's strategy given that the parliamentary term is in its fourth year and to prepare for the Johor and Melaka state elections (PRN).

"The Prime Minister will provide direction for PH not only to face the Johor and Melaka PRNs which are expected to take place in the not too distant future, but also in terms of PH's preparations for GE16 which may be within a year and a half from now," he said.

He told reporters after reviewing the final preparations for the Pakatan Harapan 2026 Convention at the Johor Persada International Convention Centre, here, today.

Fahmi said the machinery's initial work needs to be strengthened as the current parliamentary term will expire at the end of 2027.

"Taking into account that the three-year term for Parliament has already passed, so in just over a year we will indeed be facing GE16," he said.

Commenting on the organisation of the convention, Fahmi said the attendance of delegates from all over the country is expected to exceed the original target of 3,000 people.

In addition, a public meeting and inaugural talk is scheduled to be held at Puteri Wangsa state constituency in the afternoon to give the local people an opportunity to hear the mandate from the coalition's top leadership.
