KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 (Bernama) -- Popular singer-songwriter Aizat Amdan is making a return to the local music scene with the release of his latest single ‘Ajar Aku’, a collaboration with post-hardcore band Sekumpulan Orang Gila (SOG).

More than just a fusion of two distinct musical identities, the song carries a deeply spiritual message about the courage to set aside one’s ego in order to embrace guidance, knowledge and love.

Aizat described ‘Ajar Aku’ as one of the most personal works he has ever produced, saying it was born from a blend of emotions, experiences and reflections gathered throughout his journey as a singer.

He said the song was created spontaneously during a recording session for Dari Studio Podcast, his podcast programme that showcases the live songwriting process with his invited guests. SOG happened to be featured on the episode at the time.

“Although the song is not based on one specific experience, it speaks about people who are searching for direction and are not ashamed to ask for guidance. Sometimes we are too consumed by ego to accept advice, when in reality, the process of learning is itself a part of life,” he said after the launch of his new single here recently.

The ‘Sungai Lui’ singer also admitted that completing ‘Ajar Aku’ was emotionally intense, to the point that he experienced anxiety while ensuring every lyric he wrote felt sincere and resonated with listeners.

Meanwhile, SOG vocalist and guitarist Raja Nazrin Shah said the collaboration allowed the group to experiment with a freer and more organic musical approach, without being confined to conventional commercial pop formulas.

He said the contrast between SOG and Aizat’s genres became the project’s greatest strength, resulting in a fresh and daring sound that prioritised emotional depth and storytelling.

“That approach allowed every musical element to evolve naturally without chasing a formula simply to sound radio-friendly. We intentionally let creativity flow without restrictions so that each instrument could ‘breathe’. That creative freedom became the artistic meeting point between us.

“Even though we come from very different genre backgrounds, the recording process went smoothly because we shared the same goal, which is to create music that is honest and has its own soul,” Raja Nazrin said.

Adding another layer of distinction to the song is the appearance of internationally acclaimed singer Yuna at the end of the track, with her contribution described as the emotional finishing touch to the song’s overall narrative.
