US Dollar Ticks Up

NEW YORK, May 8 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The US dollar strengthened in late trading on Thursday, Xinhua reported.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, gained 0.05 per cent to 98.063 at 3 pm (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to US$1.1751 from US$1.1748 in the previous session, and the British pound fell to US$1.3583 from US$1.3593 in the previous session.

The US dollar bought 156.67 Japanese yen, higher than 156.45 Japanese yen in the previous session. The US dollar lost to 0.7788 Swiss francs from 0.7790 Swiss francs, and dropped to 1.3635 Canadian dollars from 1.3636 Canadian dollars. The US dollar climbed to 9.2432 Swedish Kronor from 9.2339 Swedish Kronor.
