SERI ISKANDAR, May 14 (Bernama) -- Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah today officiated the opening of Seri Iskandar Hospital, a new healthcare facility aimed at improving access to specialist treatment for communities in central Perak.

His Royal Highness was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.

Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad and Deputy Health Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.

Sultan Nazrin also signed a commemorative plaque to mark the official opening before touring the hospital and exhibition gallery.

In his speech, Dzulkefly said the RM162.3 million hospital had been fully operational since December 2024 and had already treated nearly 40,000 patients.

He said the facility brought renewed hope to more than 94,000 residents across 12 sub-districts in central Perak.

“In the past, elderly residents from Pasir Salak or mothers from Pulau Tiga may have had to travel long distances to seek specialist treatment. Today, a world-class healthcare facility is available much closer to them,” he said.

Dzulkefly said the hospital is staffed by 401 personnel, including five specialists in internal medicine and emergency care.

The facility is also equipped with modern amenities such as a maternity ward, haemodialysis unit and High Dependency Unit (HDU).

“All these facilities are provided to improve the people’s quality of life. I believe a healthy population is the state’s most valuable asset.

“Only with a healthy population can the development agenda of Perak and the MADANI government be successfully realised,” he said.
