SANDAKAN, April 28 (Bernama) -- The Federal Government will study the need to upgrade facilities, including the installation of a solar system at Masjid Darus Salam, a mosque which survived a major fire in Kampung Bahagia here last week.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Zulkifli Hassan said a study needs to be conducted, particularly on the installation of the solar system, to ensure the facilities are beneficial and sustainable.

“The (Religious Affairs) Department already has several mosque models that use solar systems, and some of these mosques have even won awards. We will explore what can be done for the mosque in Kampung Bahagia based on its suitability,” he told reporters after visiting fire victims at the Temporary Relief Centre at the People’s Housing Project Hall in Taman Batu Sapi here today.

On April 19, about 1,000 houses built on water were destroyed in a fire in the village, affecting thousands of residents.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli said his department had also contributed RM420,000 to communities in Sandakan, including fire victims and island communities, today.

He this contribution is provided in collaboration with the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council, Musaadah of the Department of Islamic Development, Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia and Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia, as well QSR and Zus as their corporate strategic partners.
