New SK Bandar Putra 2 Set To Reduce Overcrowding In Nearby Schools

KULAI, April 21 (Bernama) -- Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Bandar Putra 2 is in its final stage of preparation and is expected to ease overcrowding in nearby schools, Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh said.

The RM35.6 million school has been fully completed after construction began in August 2021 and was handed over to the Ministry of Education (MOE) at the end of last year.

“Final preparations are under way, including student placement and teacher readiness before operations begin.

“For its initial intake this year, the school will open for Year 2, 3 and 5 pupils,” he said after a site visit today, which was also attended by Kulai MP and Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching.

The school has 36 classrooms, three preschools - two mainstream and one under the Special Education Integration Programme (PPKI),as well as two PPKI classes.

With a capacity of about 1,260 pupils per session, excluding preschool and PPKI, it is expected to reduce congestion at SK Bandar Putra and SK Putra Utama, where class sizes average over 35 pupils.

Student numbers at SK Bandar Putra are projected to drop from 2,165 to 1,042, while SK Putra Utama is expected to decrease from 1,302 to 1,177, subject to parents’ decisions.

Wong said response to the new school has been encouraging, with more than 230 Year One registrations recorded for next year.

On teacher placement, Wong said the MOE will allocate staff based on needs, including redeployment and new recruitment. The school is expected to require about 80 teachers when fully operational.

He added that the official opening date will be announced once preparations are finalised.

In a related development, a new project, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Putra 3, announced under Budget 2026, will be built to support population growth in the area.
