KOTA BHARU, April 20 (Bernama) -- Kelantan Regent Tengku Muhammad Fakhry Petra today called on the state government and the people to focus on strengthening the economy, preserving social harmony, respecting religious values and upholding unity in line with the Membangun Bersama Islam policy.
The Regent said it was the responsibility of all parties to maintain a peaceful and harmonious environment by observing laws, regulations and established guidelines in all aspects of life, including sensitive matters such as the construction of houses or places of worship that have drawn public attention recently.
“Such compliance not only reflects civic maturity, but also serves as an important foundation in preventing disputes and disharmony. Any action that tarnishes the sanctity of religion or creates racial tension cannot be accepted at all.
“Laws must be enforced fairly and firmly, accompanied by awareness programmes to ensure peace and harmony in this state continue to be preserved,” he said in his royal address at the opening of the first meeting of the fourth session of the 15th State Legislative Assembly here today.
Meanwhile, the Regent noted that the tourism sector was also a significant catalyst for the state’s economic growth.
He said Kelantan had been blessed with natural beauty, cultural heritage and unique traditions, making it an attractive destination for domestic and international tourists.
“I therefore call on the state government to intensify efforts to upgrade tourism facilities and expand tourism promotion in line with Visit Malaysia Year 2026,” he said.
He also urged the state government to create support platforms involving psychological services, social support, environmental well-being and spiritual development, including the provision of recreational parks and sports facilities.
