SEOUL, April 14 (Bernama-Yonhap) -- South Korean police on Tuesday raided a plating factory in Hwaseong, south of Seoul, where the owner allegedly fired an air gun at a foreign worker about two months ago, causing severe internal injuries, Yonhap News Agency reported.

The Gyeonggi Nambu Provincial Police Agency sent 20 investigators to the factory in Hwaseong's Hyangnam district, 60 kilometres south of the capital, in the morning to seize materials related to the air gun incident, including the owner's phone and computers.

On Feb 20, the owner in his 60s fired an industrial air gun at the anus of a Thai worker in his 40s, who was performing cleaning work at the factory. The victim reportedly suffered abdominal swelling and internal organ damage, underwent surgery at a hospital and is still receiving treatment. The owner has claimed that he did not intentionally aim and it was just a prank.

The raid came a week after the police formed a dedicated investigation team in consideration of the seriousness of the incident. The police have also been analysing two air guns presumed to have been used in the alleged assault.

Soon after the raid, the National Forensic Service conducted an on-site inspection at the factory.

The police plan to summon the factory owner as a criminal suspect as soon as they finish analysing the seized materials.
