MELAKA, March 27 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) has recorded notable progress at the international level after achieving significant improvements in two key disciplines in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026.

Its vice-chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Massila Kamalrudin, said the university’s Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering field climbed to the 351–400 band, while Electrical and Electronic Engineering advanced into the 401–450 group.

Meanwhile, the Computer Science and Information Systems discipline maintained its position in the 651–700 range, reflecting consistent academic performance.

“This achievement reflects UTeM’s continuous commitment to strengthening teaching excellence, research and innovation, in line with our aspiration to become a leading global technical education institution,” she said in a statement today.

Massila attributed the success to focused strategies in enhancing research quality, increasing the impact of academic publications, and expanding strategic collaborations with industry players and international institutions.

She added that the dedication of academic staff in ensuring relevant and competitive curricula also played a crucial role in the improved rankings.

“This is not merely about numbers, but a strong indicator of UTeM’s growing reputation as a high-quality technical and TVET-focused institution trusted by global stakeholders,” she said.

The achievement is expected to open up wider opportunities for international collaboration and enhance the employability of graduates.

Massila reaffirmed the university’s commitment to intensifying high-impact research, expanding global partnerships and strengthening strategic priority areas to ensure sustained excellence in the years ahead.
