KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia remained in positive territory at mid-afternoon on continued buying support in selected heavyweights led by banking and utilities counters.
At 3.03 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 6.94 points, or 0.40 per cent, to 1,715.70 from Tuesday’s close of 1,708.76.
The benchmark index had opened 13.74 points higher at 1,722.50.
Market breadth, however, was negative, with losers surpassing gainers 504 to 454. A total of 471 counters were unchanged, 1,317 untraded and 24 suspended.
Turnover stood at 1.96 billion units valued at RM1.79 billion.
Among the heavyweights, Maybank gained 10 sen to RM11.44, Public Bank rose five sen to RM4.91, CIMB advanced three sen to RM7.86, Tenaga Nasional increased eight sen to RM14.36, and IHH Healthcare added two sen to RM9.00.
On the most active list, Sunway Healthcare jumped 12 sen to RM2.12, Zetrix AI slipped one sen to 72.5, Borneo Oil was flat at half a sen, AirAsia X strengthened six sen to RM1.23, and Tanco edged up three sen to RM1.44.
Among the top gainers, Hong Leong Financial surged 34 sen to RM19.64, Press Metal went up 26 sen to RM7.57, UMS Integration climbed 25 sen to RM4.85, and Hong Leong Industries improved by 20 sen to RM17.02.
Top losers included Petronas Chemicals which slid 22 sen to RM5.58 and Kuala Lumpur Kepong which decreased 20 sen to RM19.62, while United Plantations and PPB dropped 16 sen each to RM33.66 and RM11.34, respectively.
On the index board, the FBM Top 100 Index notched up 45.07 points to 12,328.74, the FBM Emas Index firmed by 43.62 points to 12,465.43, the FBM 70 Index grew 40.98 points to 16,953.24, the FBM Emas Shariah Index advanced 20.09 points to 12,191.71, and the FBM ACE Index rose 14.95 points to 4,334.88.
By sector, the Financial Services Index gained 171.67 points to 20,552.61, the Industrial Products and Services Index inched up 0.19 of a point to 180.84, the Energy Index gave up 4.67 points to 783.33, and the Plantation Index declined 53.66 points to 8,584.81.
