KUALA LUMPUR, March 14 (Bernama) -- Kuching City FC climbed up to second spot in the Super League standings after notching a slim 1-0 win over Penang FC at the City Stadium in Penang tonight.

Striker Gabriel Nistelrooy Tamin was the hero for Kuching City when he struck five minutes before half-time, and that was enough for the visitors to take home all three points and move up to second place with 40 points after 19 matches.

The victory allowed coach Aidil Sharin Sahak’s men to leapfrog Selangor FC and Kuala Lumpur City FC, who both have 38 points to occupy third and fourth places respectively. Penang, meanwhile, remain in ninth position with 19 points.

In another Super League match, Immigration FC fought back from a goal down to edge hosts Sabah 2-1 at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.

Sabah took the lead in the 29th minute when striker Darren Lok calmly slotted home a cross from S. Kumaahran before Colombian hitman Wilmar Jordan Gil equalised for Immigration from the penalty spot in the 74th minute.

Striker Mohammad Fayadh Mohd Zulkifli Amin was the toast of Immigration FC when he notched the winner in the 83rd minute, squeezing in a shot past Sabah goalkeeper Damien Chien Khai Lim after brilliant work and a sublime pass from substitute Mohd Fadzrul Danel Mohd Nizam.

Immigration, however, survived some anxious moments towards the end of the match when goalkeeper Muhammad Zarif Irfan Hashimuddin failed to save Sabah player Dean Pelekanos’ free kick.

Fortunately for Immigration, a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review adjudged that Sabah striker Azhad Harraz Arman had strayed offside and obstructed Muhammad Zarif’s view as Pelekanos took his free kick in the 89th minute.

The victory sees Immigration occupy seventh spot with 21 points, while Sabah are in 10th position in the 13-team standings with 15 points.
