13/03/2026 05:01 PM

CANBERRA, March 13 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Australia has directed non-essential officials posted to Lebanon to leave the country due to the "deteriorating security situation" in the region, Foreign Minister Penny Wong said on Friday, reported Xinhua.

However, a small number of Australian officials will remain in the country to provide consular support to Australians, said Wong on the social media platform X.

She also posted on Thursday night that the government has ordered all non-essential officials based in Israel and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to leave amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, adding that "essential Australian officials will remain in-country to support Australians who need their services".
