KUALA LUMPUR, March 13 (Bernama) -- Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, today graced the Grand Khatam Al-Quran and Iftar event at Istana Negara.
According to the official Facebook page of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, Raja Zarith Sofiah was accompanied by the Comptroller of the Royal Household at Istana Negara, Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani and the Istana Negara Grand Chamberlain, Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini.
At the event held at Istana Negara’s main surau, the Queen joined guests for the khatam Al-Quran (completion of Quran recitation) ceremony.
Her Majesty also bestowed contributions to 182 Quran recitation participants from schools, including the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) Religious Secondary School, Putrajaya Religious Secondary School, Pondok Moden Al-Abaqirah, and Maahad Tahfiz Darul Furqan.
Also present were the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) director-general Datuk Dr Sirajuddin Suhaimee, MAIWP chairman Datuk Syed Kamarulzaman Syed Kabeer, and Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) director Hanifuddin Roslan.
Earlier, Her Majesty performed Maghrib prayers in congregation, led by Istana Negara's main surau religious officer, Datuk Munir Md. Salleh.
