ISKANDAR PUTERI, March 11 (Bernama) -- The Marine Police will deploy 150 personnel and 20 patrol boats to monitor Johor waters throughout Aidilfitri.

Marine Police Region Two commander ACP Noor Azman Jamal said patrols will also be conducted in cooperation with the Singapore Police Coast Guard (SPCG).

He said Region Two is focusing monitoring efforts on the western Johor Strait waters, from the Johor Causeway to the waters off Tanjung Piai near Pontian.

“Monitoring is also being carried out in the eastern waters, from the Johor Causeway to the waters off Pengerang near Kota Tinggi,” he told Bernama after meeting officers from the SPCG here last night.

Noor Azman said the monitoring focuses on enforcement efforts and the arrest of illegal immigrants, as well as curbing the smuggling of controlled goods such as fuel.

He said most of the seizures made last year involved fuel and firecrackers, as well as the arrest of illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, he said the force and SPCG will continue strengthening cooperation and sharing information.

“We have long maintained mutual understanding and enforcement cooperation, and this collaboration continues during festive seasons,” he said.
