PUTRAJAYA, March 10 (Bernama) -- Over 400,000 farmers nationwide will receive a profit distribution of about RM25.8 million, to be distributed through 212 farmers’ organisations.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said the distribution is allowed through the issuance of a Special Order for the distribution of profits for the Audited Financial Year 2024, to be implemented before Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
"This measure is taken to ensure the welfare of farmers is not affected, although the Annual General Meeting (AGM) cannot be held during the stipulated period.
"Since the National Farmers’ Organisation (NAFAS) is still suspended, all farmers’ organisations cannot hold their AGM within the stipulated period, and this has resulted in the distribution of profits to members not being able to be implemented according to normal procedures,” he said.
He told reporters this after attending the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security's meeting with the ministry's staff here today in conjunction with Ramadan 2026.
Mohamad said the move is also to ensure farmers enjoy the benefits of their respective organisations’ profits without having to wait for the normal process to be completed.
"The distribution is expected to provide relief to members nationwide ahead of this year's Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration,” he said.
He stressed that the Special Order is specific and applies only to the Audited Financial Year 2024.
For the record, NAFAS earned a profit of RM221 million for the 2024 financial year, the highest since its establishment in 1972.
