KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- The development of housing in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency will always be prioritised to help residents there enjoy a more comfortable life, said Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.

Fahmi, who is also the Lembah Pantai Member of Parliament (MP), said that, for example, the redevelopment of the Seri Pahang Public Housing, which has 777 residential units, will be replaced by Residensi Maarof, which offers 843 units that are bigger, more comfortable and equipped with various facilities.

"However, discussions are being held with the (Kuala Lumpur) Mayor to resolve several issues, including the very high stamp duty costs, by seeking cooperation from the Ministry of Finance,” he said after the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency's Perdana breaking of fast event at IWK Eco Park, Pantai Dalam, here today.

Fahmi said the process of relocating the tenants of the Seri Pahang Public Housing scheme to Residensi Maarof is expected to be carried out by the middle of the year or by the fourth quarter, at the latest.

In addition, a new primary school that is equipped with 36 classrooms will be built in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency to meet the education needs of local residents.

He said the school will be built on the former site of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Seri Pantai, which is expected to be demolished in May or June.

At the event, he also presented vouchers worth RM150 to 1,200 recipients to assist the underprivileged in preparing for Hari Raya.

He added that after Aidilfitri, a health campaign will be carried out in the Lembah Pantai parliamentary constituency through a mobile health clinic that will not only provide health screenings but also disseminate information on government programmes and services with other agencies.
