KABUL, March 7 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- The Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) has supported the treatment of 2,002 children suffering from congenital heart disease since last year, Xinhua reported.

According to the official media Bakhtar news agency on Saturday, many children with heart defects have received medical care through programmes aimed at assisting families who lack the financial means to access specialised treatment.

The ARCS said that during the current year alone, 859 children were treated inside Afghanistan as part of these efforts.

Congenital heart disease, often known as a hole in the heart, remains a major health challenge for children in the country, where access to advanced cardiac treatment is still limited.
