JAKARTA, March 6 (Bernama) -- Preparations for the Developing Eight (D-8) Summit in Jakarta next April remain on track, Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry said.
Its spokesperson, Yvonne Mewengkang, also confirmed that Iran’s membership in the bloc remains unaffected by the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.
She said Indonesia, which currently chairs the D-8, continues to emphasise the importance of de-escalation and urged all parties to exercise restraint
“Thus far, Indonesia continues to carry out the necessary preparations and remains in communication with all D-8 members,” she said, according to ANTARA News Agency, on Friday.
The D-8 is an economic cooperation organisation of developing countries comprising Indonesia, Bangladesh, Egypt, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkiye.
Azerbaijan became the newest member after joining the grouping in December 2024.
She said, as the culmination of its chairmanship, Indonesia would host the 12th D-8 Summit in Jakarta in April 2026, which would be preceded by senior officials’ meetings and a meeting of foreign ministers.
The summit will carry the theme “Navigating Global Shifts: Strengthening Equity, Solidarity, and Cooperation for Shared Prosperity.”
