KUALA LUMPUR, March 6 (Bernama) -- More than 1,350 personnel and families of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) were reached through the Mahabbah Wira Ramadan programme organised by the Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) at three locations on the East Coast.

In a statement today, LTAT said the initiative involved iftar gatherings, bubur lambuk distribution and welfare support for Army, Air Force and Navy personnel in Tanah Merah, Kelantan; Gong Kedak, Terengganu; and Kuantan, Pahang.

The three-day programme, led by LTAT’s Jalinan Wira volunteer team, began on March 2 at the 1st Border Regiment, Kem Batu 11 in Tanah Merah, continued on March 3 at Gong Kedak Air Base in Jerteh, and concluded on March 4 at the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM) Tanjung Gelang Naval Base in Kuantan.

In the same statement, LTAT Chief Executive Mohammad Ashraf Md Radzi said the initiative was aimed at recognising the sacrifices of service members who often remain on duty during Ramadan and Syawal.

“Mahabbah Wira Ramadan is not just an annual event. In the line of duty, many of our soldiers, sailors and airmen are unable to observe Ramadan or celebrate Syawal in the way most Malaysians do.

“While the nation celebrates, they remain at their posts. That is why LTAT goes to them, no matter the distance or terrain. Their dedication knows no limits, and their sacrifices form the backbone of our nation’s peace and sovereignty,” he said.

The statement said in Tanah Merah, LTAT leaders also visited the Renap Border Operations Post together with the 8th Brigade commander Brig Gen Mohamad Nizam Abdul Manap to observe personnel safeguarding the northern borders from threats and illegal activities.

“More than 400 personnel and their families attended the iftar programme there, with bubur lambuk prepared by LTAT volunteers and camp staff. The programme then moved to Gong Kedak Air Base, home to the Su-30MKM “Toruk Makto” fighter jets, where LTAT volunteers engaged with more than 400 personnel and technical crew responsible for maintaining the nation’s air defence readiness.

“At the final stop in Kuantan, about 550 naval personnel gathered at Dewan Al-Haimi at the Tanjung Gelang Naval Base, where bubur lambuk was symbolically handed over to KD Perkasa’s commanding officer as a token of appreciation for personnel safeguarding Malaysia’s waters,” it said.

The statement added that as part of its holistic welfare commitment, the Yayasan LTAT contributed RM20,400 to 68 families across the three locations, including asnaf families, the chronically ill and persons with disabilities (OKU), during Ramadan and ahead of Syawal.

“LTAT also conducted its Financial Literacy and Contributors Benefit Briefing programme at the three locations to guide personnel on financial management, social protection and retirement planning.

“Since its introduction in December 2023, the programme has reached more than 55,000 MAF personnel in line with LTAT’s strategic roadmap 2026-2030 and the MADANI Economy agenda, equipping contributors with knowledge to ensure long-term financial well-being,” it said.

In addition, LTAT and its group of companies collectively contributed RM420,000 to the MAF as part of its annual Aidilfitri contribution, which will be formally handed over at a separate event to be witnessed by Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

LTAT said the Mahabbah Wira Ramadan initiative reflects its role as a strategic partner to MAF personnel, supporting their welfare and well-being beyond its role as a retirement fund manager.

“To date, LTAT’s Jalinan Wira volunteering team has clocked in more than 2,300 volunteer hours, contributed by more than 200 volunteers among the LTAT workforce,” it said.
