IPOH, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Asnaf individuals and flood-affected residents in Gugusan Manjoi here are able to obtain free preloved Raya clothing, shoes and bags, thanks to a joint initiative by Kampung Sungai Tapah Neighbourhood Watch (KRT) and Berkat Manjoi non-governmental organisation (NGO).

KRT chairman Zairol Noor Akma Zakaria said the preloved Raya clothing collection programme was organised for the first time in collaboration with Berkat Manjoi to help affected communities prepare for the upcoming Aidilfitri celebration.

“We have been receiving clothing donations from the public since this morning, including adult and children’s attire such as baju Melayu, baju kurung, headscarves and blouses in various colours and designs.

“Those in need may come to Dewan Manjoi Baru Tambahan (MBT) Manjoi Baru here from 9 am to noon on March 1,” he said when met by Bernama at the clothing collection centre here today.

He said the collection of Raya clothing was carried out for one day only, with about 30 volunteers involved in sorting the donated items according to type and size.

In addition to baju kurung in various sizes, men’s attire such as baju Melayu and kurtas, shoes, handbags, headscarves and kopiah were also received, most of which are still in good condition and have only been worn once or twice.

He said the clothing and other items can be collected by those in need next week, and so far, more than 1,000 pieces of clothing and related items have been received.

Meanwhile, Zuzilah Ayu Mohamed Basri, 55, said she contributed 20 sets of clothing, comprising baju kurung and headscarves.

“The clothes I donated are still in good condition but no longer worn, so I took the initiative to contribute them to those in need.

“The contributions are not mine alone, my sister and children also donated,” said the Kampung Sungai Tapah resident.
