Ahmad Samsuri Appointed New PN Chairman

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has been appointed as the new Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman following the resignation of Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin more than a month ago.

PN deputy secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan announced the appointment at a media conference after the coalition supreme council’s extraordinary meeting at PAS headquarters here today.

“The meeting also approved Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as PN chairman effective Jan 1, 2026,”  he said.

Takiyuddin also said that discussions about a new Parliament Opposition Leader to replace Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who was sacked from Bersatu, were still ongoing and that component parties agreed that the position should be held by PAS.

"But there has yet to be a decision as PAS requires a bit more time to study the matter,” he said.

Meanwhile Ahmad Samsuri described his appointment as PN chairman as a immense and challenging duty.

The Terengganu Menteri Besar added that he would hold a PN supreme council meeting to determine the appointment in accordance with the coalition’s constitution.

“What needs to be expedited at this moment is to strengthen political ties, implement structural improvements and efforts to make PN the nucleus of hope for the people,” he posted on Facebook today.
