KUALA TERENGGANU, Feb 15 (Bernama) -- The Terengganu Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 468 summonses for various offences since the special Chinese New Year (2026) enforcement operation began on Feb 13.

Terengganu JPJ director Mohd Zamri Samion said the summonses were issued following checks on 4,963 vehicles, including cars, motorcycles, public service vehicles and goods service vehicles, across federal, state and highway roads throughout the state.

He said expired motor vehicle licences topped the list of offences with 138 cases, followed by no insurance coverage (119 cases) and driving without a competent driving licence (97 cases).

“We also took enforcement action against 342 vehicles for various offences, including technical violations, during the operation.

“Other offences that recorded a relatively high number of cases included not wearing helmets, running red lights, registration numbers not complying with specifications, and window tints that were too dark,” he said at the operation held at the Gemuruh Toll Plaza here today.

Mohd Zamri said that, in addition to the summonses, the Terengganu JPJ also issued 83 inspection notices and 220 other notices to road users during the operation.

He also said that this year’s operation also focused on nine offences identified as major contributors to serious accidents.

Mohd Zamri said the offences included speeding, driving in the emergency lane, using a mobile phone while driving, not wearing a seat belt or helmet, and carrying excess or dangerous loads.

Meanwhile, he said a total of 155 members and enforcement officers would be on duty throughout the special Chinese New Year 2026 enforcement operation, which is scheduled to run until Feb 22.

“During the operation, patrols at selected locations will be conducted for 24 hours on Feb 14, 15, 21 and 22, and for 16 hours a day from Febr 16 to 20, according to duty shifts,” he said.
