Man, Woman Found Dead In Skudai Fire Incident

JOHOR BAHRU, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- A man and a woman were found dead in a fire involving a two-storey terraced house at Taman Damai Jaya, Skudai here this morning.

Skudai Fire and Rescue Station chief Saifulbahri Safar said two Fire Rescue Tenders and a Toyota Hilux vehicle with 13 firefighters were dispatched to the scene after the station received an emergency call regarding the fire at 5.28 am.

“Upon arriving at the scene, the team found that the fire had gutted about 40 per cent of the living room on the ground floor of the house.

“The team carried out extinguishing works and a search operation later found both victims, aged 21 and 22,  in an unconscious state, believed to be dead,  on the upper floor,” he said in a statement today.

Saifulbahri said the victims were subsequently handed over to the police for further action, and the operation ended at 8.08 am.

Meanwhile, Johor Bahru Utara district police chief ACP Radin Ramlan Radin Taha, in a separate statement, said the police had received a report on the incident and that the bodies of the two victims had been sent to Hospital Sultanah Aminah here for post-mortem.

“It is learnt that the deceased were acquaintances at their workplace, and we have called in the victim’s husband to record his statement. The cause of the fire and the deaths are still under investigation, and the case has been classified as sudden death,” he added.
