KUANTAN, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- A total of 137 million trees from 2,091 species were planted nationwide between 2021 and Dec 31 last year under the 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign of the Malaysia Greening Programme.
The Peninsular Malaysia Forestry Department (JPSM) said in a statement today that Pahang recorded an encouraging achievement, with 13.4 million trees planted, reflecting the state government’s commitment and strong community support for forest and environmental conservation efforts.
It said Pahang also made history in 2025 after receiving recognition from The Malaysia Book of Records for the largest peat swamp forest species planting in the country.
“A total of 500 saplings of Ketapang (Indian almond) and Rhu Pantai (casuarina) species were planted together with the local community to strengthen coastal protection and preserve the coastal ecosystem,” it said.
JPSM said that Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, also officiated at the handover of the Coastal Erosion Control Project at Kampung Tanjung Batu, Nenasi, Pekan, to the Pahang state government today.
“The project, implemented under the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, was completed ahead of schedule and serves to protect a 4.3-kilometre stretch of coastline, ensuring the safety of residents, infrastructure and the balance of the local ecosystem,” the statement added.
