KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Next Generation Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 (NG MERS999) project has gained international recognition after being named global winner of the Social PPP Project of the Year at the 10th Istanbul PPP Week Awards in Istanbul, yesterday.

Communications Ministry Control and Compliance Division Secretary Kamarudin Abdul Rani said the prestigious award reflects the success of a high-impact social project implemented through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, particularly in strengthening the nation’s emergency response system through integrated communications technology and coordinated rescue services.

“The global recognition highlights the close collaboration between the government and the private sector in delivering high-quality, internationally benchmarked emergency services.

“The project is coordinated by the Public-Private Partnership Unit (UKAS) under the Prime Minister’s Department, with the Ministry of Communications as the project owner and Telekom Malaysia (TM) as the concessionaire,” he told Bernama.

The award ceremony was held at Le Méridien Istanbul Etiler in conjunction with Istanbul PPP Week, which brings together investors, financial institutions, advisers and policymakers from Europe, West Asia, Asia and Africa to discuss sustainable infrastructure development through PPP approaches.

Under NG MERS999, the national 999 emergency call system has been upgraded with next-generation technology to shorten response times, strengthen inter-agency coordination and ensure faster, more efficient assistance to the public.

The achievement marks a milestone as NG MERS999 became the first Malaysian PPP project to be nominated for, and win, the award since the Istanbul PPP Week Awards were introduced a decade ago, further enhancing Malaysia’s international reputation in delivering socially impactful infrastructure projects.
