KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) -- Efforts to preserve and promote Sabah’s rich diversity of ethnic languages are being further strengthened through the production of a compilation album titled ‘Min Yasmin & Sabahans’, which is expected to be released after Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

The project is spearheaded by well-known composer and music producer Julfekar Ahmad Shah, also known as BroJul, in collaboration with singer Min Yasmin. Using music as a medium, the initiative aims to convey the message of unity, as well as preserve Sabah’s ethnic languages and cultural heritage.

“So far, four songs in the Bajau Samah Semporna, Dusun, Bisaya and Iranun languages, complete with music videos, have been completed and released to the public via the Julfekar Music Channel. Another seven songs in other ethnic languages are expected to follow soon,” Julfekar said in a statement today.

He said the album comprises 11 tracks, featuring Min Yasmin in collaboration with 11 singers from various ethnic communities in Sabah.

Among the ethnic groups represented are Kadazan, Dusun, West Coast Bajau Samah, Sungai, Brunei, Rungus, Murut, Suluk, Iranun, East Coast Bajau Samah and Bisaya, reflecting the state’s extensive ethnolinguistic diversity.

The album is produced by Julfekar, with lyrics penned by local writers from Sabah.

“This album seeks to celebrate and honour cultural heritage and ethnic languages, ensuring they continue to be preserved and appreciated by future generations through a universal approach,” Julfekar added.
