KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- Even though she has been in the entertainment industry for 17 years and appeared in more than 30 dramas, including telemovies, actress and model Bella Dowanna has not really caught the attention of the public.

Although her talent drew notice through her role as Laura in the friendship-themed drama series ‘Budak Tebing’ in 2020, her career has not shone as brightly as expected, with subsequent opportunities falling short of her hopes.

Bella, 23, whose real name is Qystinna Istajibilla Dowanna Halim, started acting at the age of six. The uncertainty surrounding her career path has led the Ipoh-born artiste to grapple with self-doubt and questions about her direction in the entertainment industry.

According to the young actress, who is also a television host, these doubts began to surface when she felt she had yet to reach the level she aspired to in her career, prompting her to reflect on her future in the industry.

“There was a phase where I felt like I hadn’t quite arrived. At times, I felt overlooked and not relevant enough, which made me question my own direction. But I believe that’s part of every actor’s journey,” she said.

Speaking to the media after being appointed as Jakel Raya 2026 brand ambassador here recently, Bella— who also appeared in the Malaysian psychological crime thriller ‘M4M4’ alongside popular actress Nabila Huda — said the period of uncertainty has, however, taught her to be patient and trust in her own process.

“Every actor has their own path and phases. Some move faster, others more slowly, and I believe the process is different for everyone. What matters is to keep working hard and not compare your journey with others,” she said.

Bella also said transitioning from a child artiste to a more mature phase in the industry takes time, discipline and patience, as well as consistent effort to build credibility with every role entrusted to her.

She also acknowledged that young performers often face challenges in earning trust and respect on set. However, Bella chooses to view such experiences as part of the learning process that has helped her grow and mature in the industry.

“There are times when our opinions aren’t taken seriously because of our age. But I believe respect comes from how we conduct ourselves and how we work. If we respect others, God willing, we will be respected in return,” she said.
