Melaka Saves RM13.5 Mln A Year Under RKB - Ab Rauf

MELAKA, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- The Melaka state government has managed to save RM13.5 million a year through the Bureaucratic Red Tape Reform (RKB), in addition to speeding up government affairs and improving the effectiveness of service delivery to the people.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said therefore the RKB must be translated into real changes in the way of working, simpler processes, faster decisions and results that can be felt by the people, thus convincing the people of an efficient government delivery system.

"For this, every existing process and procedure must be reviewed and streamlined and continuously improved so that there are no more procedural excuses and delays without clear justification," he said.

He said this when speaking at the 2026 New Year's Address Ceremony themed Year of Implementation: Sustainability Indicators, Fulfilling Trust, Strengthening Performance at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) Ayer Keroh here today.

Also present were Melaka State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Ibrahim Durum and Melaka State Secretary Datuk Azhar Arshad.

Among the RKB projects in Melaka is the collaboration between the Melaka Land and Mines Office (PTG) and the local authorities (PBT) to improve administrative operations and increase the efficiency of service delivery.

It involves the improvement of the Second Edition Development Proposal Report Manual (LCP), Melaka State Amendment by PTG Melaka together with PLANMalaysia@Melaka which successfully reduced the period for land acquisition from 36 months to only six months through an integrated and simultaneous technical review.

Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said Melaka's performance in the education sector continued to show significant improvement when 118 schools were recognised as Inspirational Schools that showed excellent performance this year compared to only one school the previous year.

He said it was even prouder when Melaka managed to record zero focus schools in the School Reform Criteria when there were no more schools that required the attention of the Ministry of Education to be monitored intensively, thus reflecting the state's educational achievement level which was on excellent track.

Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said a total of 17,393 public complaints were recorded in the Melaka Public Complaints Management System (SISPAA) with 16,039 or 92 per cent of the complaints successfully resolved while the remaining 1,354 complaints were still in action and being continuously monitored by the relevant agencies in 2025.

"However, I do not want this focus to be only on complaints in SISPAA, instead all departments and agencies must be sensitive, act promptly and be responsive to all platforms of interaction with the people.

"If possible, today a complaint is received, there must also be a response to the people today. Don't let the same complaint happen a second time," he said.
