NEW DELHI, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has received an invitation from Donald Trump to join the Gaza “Board of Peace”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.

“Pakistan will remain ‍engaged with ‌international efforts for peace ‍and security in Gaza, leading to a lasting ‌solution to the Palestine issue in accordance with ‍United Nations resolutions,” a ministry spokesman said.

On Friday, the White House announced the formation of the “National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG)”, which it said was “a vital step forward” in implementing the second phase of Trump's plan to end the Gaza conflict.

The committee is headed by Ali Shaath, an engineer and former deputy minister in the Palestinian Authority. It will run day-to-day affairs of the enclave which has been devasted by the genocide the Israeli military has carried out since October 2023.

The White House said that “to operationalise the Board of Peace's vision” a founding executive board “composed of leaders with experience across diplomacy, development, infrastructure, and economic strategy” has been formed.

Its members include US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US special envoy to the Middle East and real estate magnate Steve Witkoff, Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, former British leader Tony Blair, New York private equity firm Apollo Global Management chief executive Marc Rowan, World Bank president Ajay Banga, and Robert Gabriel, a US national security adviser.
