KANGAR, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The extent of power allocated to the Syariah Court through the Federal Constitution should be reviewed and examined from time to time to ensure its implementation is maximised without overstepping the established Constitutional framework.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, decreed that in this context, matters related to criminal procedure - including the issue of remand detention jurisdiction by the Syariah Court - need to be given attention and subjected to a comprehensive study. This is to determine if there is space and a necessity for it to be implemented within the current Syariah judicial system.
“The Syariah Court must remain sensitive to existing jurisdictions, particularly in Syariah criminal jurisdiction, to ensure judicial power can be exercised more orderly and effectively.
“Strengthening Syariah criminal jurisdiction is an important necessity in efforts to reinforce the role of the Syariah Court as a credible institution of justice, in line with current needs and the development of the country's legal system,” His Royal Highness said in a statement from the Arau Palace today.
The statement noted that Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra said this after leading the MAIPs Peduli Programme, organised by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs), around Kangar recently.
Meanwhile, the statement informed that the charity cycling event is not merely a recreational activity but has evolved into an iconic brand in the state of Perlis. it combines elements of sports, dakwah (outreach), and welfare through a holistic approach to engaging with the community.
“In contrast to conventional aid delivery methods that typically require applicants to visit an office, the MAIPs Peduli Cycling Programme emphasises a 'down-to-earth' approach. It brings MAIPs, along with heads of state and federal agencies and departments, to personally visit the homes of the people.
“This approach allows the relevant parties to understand the reality of life for the asnaf (tithe recipients) and the underprivileged more closely, comprehensively, and effectively,” the statement added.
In conjunction with the programme, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, in his capacity as the President of MAIPs, also consented to present MAIPs zakat contributions to Ku Maznah Ku Mat, 67, from Kampung Titi Tok Bandar; Ahmad Suhaimi Husin, 67, (Kampung Hutan Melintang); and Talib Ali, 74, (Kampung Panggau).
