SEREMBAN, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The Negeri Sembilan government welcomes the proposal to build a Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) Teaching Hospital in Nilai and hopes that the project will be given priority by the federal government.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the proposal was raised in the last Parliament session for the government's consideration, given its importance to the medical education sector and the health needs of the local community.
"I welcome this proposal and I am confident that the construction of USIM Hospital will be given priority by the federal government. It is highly anticipated by students and educators in the medical field.
"In addition, the hospital will also provide great benefits to the community in Nilai in obtaining health services," he told reporters after officiating the Sejahtera MADANI-Education: Kasih Siswa Program at the Negeri Sembilan level here today.
Also present were State Secretary, Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim, State Financial Officer, Datuk Masri Razali and State Development Director, Datuk Noor-Ihsan Che Mat.
He said the construction of USIM Hospital would not only strengthen the medical education ecosystem but also increase access to quality health services to local residents and the surrounding areas.
The media yesterday reported that the Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir in his speech hoped that the construction of the hospital could be carefully considered because it has the potential to strengthen health services in the state.
Meanwhile, Aminuddin in his speech said the Implementation Coordination Unit in the Prime Minister's Department (ICU JPM) is currently formulating the implementation of the train and place programme targeting youth from eKasih families, as a proactive measure to address the issue of poverty in Negeri Sembilan.
According to him, the programme is in line with the priorities of the MADANI Government which emphasises human development and the provision of quality job opportunities, especially to empower the younger generation so that they can break out of the cycle of poverty.
He said Negeri Sembilan had achieved zero hardcore poverty status based on Cumulative Dynamic Data in 2024 and March 2025, but continued efforts were needed to ensure that the well-being of the people could be improved comprehensively.
"The challenge is not just maintaining zero hardcore poverty but eliminating all poverty in the state. As of Dec 31, there were still 6,887 poor heads of households in the state, this is not just a number but the reality of the people's lives who have placed their hopes on the government's leadership and policies," he said.
