JERTIH, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) has presented a RM7,000 donation to the family of its student, the late Syakirah Hanan Mazli, who tragically died in a traffic accident at a traffic light junction on Jalan Kemajuan on Jan 5.
The contribution, from the university’s Student Welfare and Protection Fund, was a gesture of sympathy and continued support to alleviate the family's burden, said deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Hafiz Yusoff.
"The presentation was made by UniSZA’s pro-chancellor, Tan Sri Dr Mohd Yusof Md Nor, to Syakirah’s father, Mazli Yusoh, 51, at their home in Kampung Alor Selinsing last night.
“UniSZA extends its deepest condolences on the loss of Syakirah Hanan and reaffirms its dedication to student welfare, which includes offering suitable assistance to families facing such a profound tragedy,” he said in a statement today.
The fatal collision occurred at 1.55 pm on Jan 5 when Syakirah Hanan, 25, was struck head-on by a high-speed Honda Jazz while making a right turn on a green light in her Perodua Viva near UniSZA.
The second-semester Postgraduate Diploma in Education student was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a subsequent court hearing on Monday, the Honda Jazz driver, Mohd Izuddin Zakaria, 32, was ordered by the Magistrate’s Court here to undergo a psychiatric assessment at Hospital Permai in Johor Bahru.
