PERKESO Intensifying Development Of Comprehensive Worker Protection, Welfare Ecosystem Through Digitalisation - Ramanan

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 15  (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) is stepping up efforts to develop a more comprehensive worker protection and welfare ecosystem through digitalisation, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), in line with the Human Resources Ministry’s (KESUMA) targets for this year, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.

He said the initiative involves creating an integrated hub or platform to streamline services for the country’s 17 million-strong workforce, covering areas such as social protection, skills training, contributions, and handling various employee-related matters.

“We (KESUMA) have significant responsibilities because we oversee the entire workforce. This year, our focus is on strengthening digitalisation.

“We hope to implement it effectively to provide an overall robust ecosystem for workers,” he told reporters after the ministry’s “Majlis Amanat Tahun Baharu” and monthly assembly here today.

In addition, he said, the phased implementation of the Gig Workers Act 2025 (Act 872) this year is a key priority, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by gig workers.

“The approach we are taking is to understand the reality on the ground and identify the best methods to facilitate the employment process and social protection for the groups concerned,” he said.

The media previously reported that Act 872 was gazetted on Dec 31, 2025, following Royal Assent on Dec 16 of the same year. The act is expected to protect 1.2 million gig workers nationwide.

On another front, he said KESUMA is currently drafting the 2026-2030 National Human Resources Policy (DSMN), which will serve as the main framework to coordinate policies on skills development, labour and industrial relations, and social protection.

He added that comprehensive reforms of 26 laws had also been carried out to ensure that the legal framework remains relevant, fair, and effective, in line with International Labour Organisation (ILO) standards.

“KESUMA laws must guarantee safety, welfare, and comprehensive support for every worker,” he said.

In addition, he said KESUMA aims to elevate Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a key driver of social mobility, with a target of achieving 35 per cent of the skilled workforce by 2030, in line with the vision of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Therefore, we want KESUMA’s service delivery to continue being strengthened and recognised among the best, in line with the MADANI government’s people-first aspirations,” he added.
