KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The remains of Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Radio head  Azlan Idris were buried at the Raudatul Sakinah Islamic Cemetery, Taman Selasih, here at about 12.15 pm today.

Azlan, 57, passed away at his residence at 12.35 am today after experiencing shortness of breath.

Earlier, his body was brought to the Usamah Bin Zaid Mosque in Wangsa Maju at about 9 am for the funeral rites and prayer, which was attended by family members, close friends and colleagues from the media fraternity.

Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin described the late Azlan as a jovial person who was always generous with thoughtful feedback and constructive suggestions to the organisation’s management.

“His passing came as a shock. Just yesterday, I chaired a Bernama top management meeting, which he attended, and we discussed many matters.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his wife, Wan Syahrina Wan Abdul Rahman, and family, as well as the entire Bernama Radio family,” she said when met at the cemetery.

Also present were Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, Acting Deputy Editor-in-Chief of News Services Mohd Shukri Ishak, Press Secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Shuhaimi Mohamad, and Press Secretary to Communications Minister Hanim Muhili.

Meanwhile, Azlan’s eldest son, Zarif Aiman, 31, said his father would be remembered as a firm, disciplined and principled man, whose strictness was balanced by his caring nature and sincerity in helping others.

“Father was always straightforward, especially when it came to discipline, speech and personal appearance. He emphasised neatness and accuracy in everything.

“From the way he spoke and dressed to the way he worked, everything had to be top-notch. He is irreplaceable,” he said.
