TNB’s Ceria Ke Sekolah Initiative Aids Pangsapuri Seri Perantau Students Get School-Ready

PORT KLANG, Jan 2 (Bernama) -- A total of 100 students from the asnaf (eligible for tithe) and B40 groups at Block C Pangsapuri Seri Perantau, were thrilled to receive school supplies under the Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s (TNB) Ceria ke Sekolah (CKS) 2026 programme.

TNB’s Chief Regulatory and Stakeholder Management, Datuk Shamsul Ahmad, said the RM10,000 corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative aims to ease parents’ costs ahead of the new school term starting in about two weeks.

“This programme is more than just handing out aid; it reflects TNB’s commitment to social development, education, and the welfare of underprivileged communities.

“We believe education is the most valuable social investment, as children who start school fully equipped gain confidence and motivation to learn,” he said during the handover ceremony at the apartments on Thursday.

Also present was State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.

Shamsul said TNB, as a national utility company, goes beyond supplying reliable electricity and actively supports the country’s development through ongoing support for education and human capital development.

He said that since 2013, CKS has aided over 86,000 families with more than RM13.7 million in funding, adding that in 2026, TNB aims to help more than 10,000 students in the B40 category nationwide through the back-to-school programme.

“TNB is pleased to support residents of Block C, Pangsapuri Seri Perantau, affected by the electrical distribution board room fire in early December,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nurul Fatin Anuwar, 31, whose children received the aid today, welcomed TNB’s efforts, which eased the burden on parents still coping with the aftermath of the fire.

“Since the fire early last month, I’ve been staying with my in-laws in Banting. I work in Klang and need to drop my children off at a childcare centre here, so the daily travel costs have put a real strain on our finances.

“The aid for my two children (Year 1 and 2) today not only eases the burden on my husband and I, but also allows many parents to breathe easier, as it helps us to buy new school uniforms,” she said.

Homemaker Samsiah Mohamad, 49, expressed her gratitude, saying the aid would help her child, who is sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year, buy school essentials such as reference books.

“My husband and I are unemployed, so this aid is helpful. It’s not about the amount; it at least lightens the load for us, as we depend entirely on our two working children,” she added.

On Dec 7, the electrical distribution board room at Block C, Pangsapuri Seri Perantau caught fire due to poor maintenance, destroying the building’s wiring system and affecting around 600 residents across 128 units.

Following the fire, TNB supplied temporary electricity to part of the apartments from Dec 17 while the building management carried out full repairs.

By Jan 1, electricity was restored to 50 units, with 78 still under repair.

Shamsul said TNB will restore power once the contractor appointed by the building’s management completes the repairs and the connections are deemed safe.

In addition to the CKS aid, the company’s CSR initiative also funded repairs to the electrical system for the Block C lifts.

At the event, TNB provided health checks and consultations, and donated two nebulisers and medical equipment for the elderly.
