KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia has organised the ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Its Role in the Energy Sector’ webinar to explore how advanced digital technologies are shaping the future of sustainable energy.

SEDA Malaysia said in a statement today that the webinar served as a strategic knowledge-sharing session in support of Malaysia's clean energy agenda and as an early engagement initiative ahead of the International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2026.

SEDA Malaysia's deputy director of strategic planning Dr Khairunnisa Kamarul Zaman highlights SEDA's role as the country's key sustainable energy organisation, and highlights the importance of youth engagement across the agency's programmes and initiatives.

“SEDA recognises the energy transition as a long-term journey that requires the involvement of the younger generation, particularly those with skills and interest in AI and digital technologies,” she said.

The main session was delivered by the director of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Associate Professor Dr Mohd Ibrahim Shapiai @ Abd Razak, who shared the growing importance of AI and the application of AI-driven technologies in addressing real-world challenges in the energy sector, including smart city solutions.

“The webinar concluded with the soft launch of the SEDA Innovation Challenge (SIC) by Saiful Hakim. The initiative is designed to encourage youths to develop innovative ideas and solutions for sustainable energy, while recognising AI as a key enabling tool that can be leveraged to drive broader energy innovation,” it said.

SEDA Malaysia added that it remains committed to nurture future-ready talent and foster innovation through strategic investment programme such as the webinar and the SIC reinforces its role in supporting Malaysia's energy transition and strengthening the channel of skilled professional ahead of ISES 2026.
