TASEK GELUGOR, Dec 30 (Bernama) -- The Penang Regional Development Authority (PERDA) has allocated RM50,000 to 200 pupils to help them purchase school supplies under its Back-to-School Programme.
Its chairman Datuk Dr Shaik Hussein Mydin said the pupils, from 18 schools and 27 villages in Seberang Perai Utara, came from poor and low-income families.
“Through this programme, we selected 200 pupils from 18 PERDA-guided primary schools in Penang to receive back-to-school assistance this year. The main focus of the aid is to boost motivation and ensure that no pupil drops out of school due to poverty.
“Each pupil will receive assistance in the form of a RM150 voucher to purchase school uniforms and supplies according to their needs. We hope this will help ease their families’ burden in preparing for the start of the 2026 school session,” he told reporters after launching the programme at Midtown PERDA in Kubang Menerong here today.
He said the programme was also part of PERDA’s activities oriented towards providing assistance to the poor, single mothers and B40 families within the authority’s operational areas.
