IPOH, Dec 25 (Bernama) -- The site use permit of an eatery that went viral near Section 45.9 of the Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands Road (FT 185) will be temporarily suspended for one month starting tomorrow to allow for a comprehensive investigation into landslide risks in the area.
Perak Infrastructure, Energy, Water and Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the decision was made following an initial assessment which found that the affected area involved reclaimed land with a high risk of landslides.
He said, however, that the slope location is outside the supervision or reserve of the Public Works Department (JKR).
“Based on the current condition, JKR has advised that the location be closed to all activities to prevent any untoward incidents.
“The closure of the site falls under the jurisdiction of the Forestry Department and the relevant local authorities,” he said in a statement today.
Mohammad Nizar said the landslide-prone area is located in Compartment 31 of the Bukit Kinta Forest Reserve and is close to the eatery area.
He said the eatery had been granted approval for a Site Use Permit by the Perak State Forestry Department for the purpose of leasing a food and beverage outlet site covering 0.4 hectares, effective from May 16 to Dec 31, 2025.
“For initial action and reporting, the Perak State Forestry Department will issue a closure notice to the permit holder starting tomorrow (Dec 26) for a period of one month until the investigation is fully completed,” he said.
Earlier, a popular rest stop among tourists along the Simpang Pulai-Cameron Highlands route drew attention after soil erosion at the location was exposed through aerial footage that went viral on social media.
Drone footage shared by a TikTok user showed part of the land near the eatery area had eroded, raising concerns among netizens over the safety level of the location.
