Swift Lifeguard Response Prevents Tragedy At MBSP Theme Park Pool

BUKIT MERTAJAM, 25 Dis (Bernama) -- The Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) has confirmed that a three-year-old girl narrowly escaped drowning at the children’s pool of the MBSP Theme Park, Sports and Recreation Complex in Jalan Betek yesterday.

In a statement, MBSP said the incident occurred at about 5 pm and was quickly detected by lifeguards on duty. The child was immediately removed from the 90-centimetre-deep pool, and first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), was administered in line with standard operating procedures.

Emergency assistance from security agencies and medical personnel was promptly sought. Due to the swift response by the lifeguards, the child regained consciousness before being handed over to the Fire and Rescue Department, which arrived at the scene at 5.20 pm.

The victim was later taken to Bukit Mertajam Hospital for further treatment.

MBSP stressed that the safety of visitors remains its top priority, adding that lifeguards are stationed at all pool areas throughout operating hours and that strict safety SOPs are consistently enforced.

The council also assured that its personnel are always prepared to respond to emergencies.

Expressing concern over the incident, MBSP said it hopes the child is in stable condition. The council also urged parents and guardians to closely supervise their children at all times, especially in water areas, to prevent similar incidents.
