MELAKA, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- A journalist and a Photographer from the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Melaka Bureau won two awards at the Melaka Chief Minister's Media Awards 2025 here tonight.
A journalist who is also the Bernama Melaka Bureau Chief, Mohd Fakri Awang Lah, won the Outstanding TV News Report Award (Jebat), taking home RM500 in cash and a certificate presented by the State Executive Councillor (Exco) for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Food Security, Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.
Bernama Melaka Bureau Photographer Muhammad Zulhilmi Daud won the Outstanding Photojournalism Award (Jebat), also taking home RM500 in cash and a certificate presented by the State Exco for Tourism, Heritage, Arts, and Culture, Datuk Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman.
Mohd Fakri, 37, who has served at the Bernama Melaka Bureau for about five years, said he won the award for a news report titled "IoT Ubah Kehidupan Pesara Tentera kepada Petani Modem" (IoT Changes the Life of an Army Veteran into a Modern Farmer). He expressed surprise at winning the award in the TV news report category.
"For the Outstanding TV News Report Award category, I only submitted one entry, compared to the Outstanding News Award category in Bahasa Melayu and English, where I submitted five entries but did not win.
"This is the first time I have entered the Melaka Chief Minister's Awards competition, and Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), I won that category... this victory will be a catalyst for me to continue producing more interesting news reports related to Melaka," said Mohd Fakri, who has served with Bernama since 2012.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Zulhilmi, 35, who has served at the Bernama Bureau in Melaka for eight years, said he was deeply touched by the award received and described it as a recognition and appreciation that will motivate him to continue producing more interesting photos related to Melaka and Bernama.
"This award is not just for me alone, but also for Bernama, especially the Melaka Bureau team," he said.
During the ceremony, Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj also received the Melaka Chief Minister's Special Award, which came with RM1,000 in cash, a plaque, and a certificate.
The award, presented by Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, was received by Mohd Fakri on behalf of Arul Rajoo.
