Malaysian men now face a rising cancer burden, and according to the Malaysia National Cancer Registry Report 2017-2021, the lifetime risk of Malaysian men developing cancer has increased from 1 in 10 to 1 in 8 male with colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers leading the list.
Consultant Urologist at Sunway Medical Centre Velocity (SMCV), Dr Goh Cheng Hood shared that reluctance to act early is often rooted in social stigma rather than lack of awareness, as many men associate medical consultations with weakness or embarrassment, especially when it involves sensitive topics such as urinary or reproductive health.
Consultant Clinical Oncologist from SMCV, Dr Hafizah Zaharah Ahmad shared that based on the Clinical Practice Guideline (CPG) on colorectal cancer, increased intake of 100 grams per day of red meat and 25 grams per day of processed meat were risk factors of developing cancers.
