KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 (Bernama) -- The 13th Malaysia Plan (MP13) needs to focus on the strategic priorities of the agro-food sector and ensure that its implementation in the field is translated effectively to guarantee the well-being of farmers, breeders and fishermen.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, in a Facebook post, said the matter was discussed during the visit of Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan at Wisma Tani, Putrajaya today.
Mohamad said the MP13 which will be tabled on July 30, must be based on the core values of MADANI Malaysia, namely Prosperity, Compassion and Empowerment by ensuring that every intervention policy truly gives attention and benefits to the groups that form the backbone of the sector, namely farmers, breeders and fishermen.
“MP13 cannot remain as a document on paper alone and it must be translated into the field. It must reach the people. We want to see farmers more competitive, farmers more productive, fishermen more protected.
“This is the face of MADANI Agriculture that we dream of, a fair, equitable and sustainable development without anyone being left behind,” he said.
Mohamad said that with close cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the Ministry of Finance, agricultural reforms can be achieved for the future of the people and the country.
