SHAH ALAM, July 9 (Bernama) -- The Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC) recently commemorated its 10th anniversary by taking strategic steps to drive digital transformation and entrepreneurial growth over the past decade.
The grand celebration, officiated by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and attended by government leaders, corporate stakeholders, technology partners, and international guests, saw three distinguished figures being appointed as advisers to strengthen SIDEC's direction in innovation, talent development, and regional leadership in the digital economy.
Former Nvida Corp and Foxconn vice president Datuk Lai Yit Loong and Foxconn director and former TSMC co-chief operating officer Dr Chiang Shang-Yi, both named as advisers to the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park and Advanced Semiconductor Academy of Malaysia (ASEM), focusing on talent development and cross-border collaboration in the fields of technology and semiconductor manufacturing, sharing their extensive expertise in global semiconductor innovation and industry advancement.
Also appointed was Nurul Izzah Anwar as the executive chair of Polity, a new think tank that brings valuable insights into public policy, socio-economic development, and digital empowerment.
SIDEC said in a statement that these appointments mark a strategic milestone in strengthening Selangor's position as a regional innovation hub and accelerate the development of the nation's semiconductor ecosystem.
The ceremony also witnessed the signing of a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SIDEC, Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB), and Artem Ventures, to formalise the establishment of the Selangor Semiconductor Fund (SSF), Malaysia's first state-led venture capital initiative, specifically to accelerate the growth of the country's semiconductor industry.
The Selangor government will lead the fund through SIDEC and PNSB, and will be co-managed with Artem Ventures.
"SSF will focus on supporting high-potential startups and scale-ups in three key areas: IC (integrated circuit) design, AI (artificial intelligence) chips, and advanced semiconductor solutions," read the statement.
The event also honoured the first cohort of graduates of the Global Semiconductor Exchange Programme (GSEP), a two-month international training initiative under ASEM held in Shenzhen, China.
The programme equipped 30 selected participants (chosen from 343 applications) with practical skills in digital IC Design, including the use of EDA toolchains, Verilog HDL, and system-level verification.
"The participants also undertook industry visits to leading technology organisations such as HONOR, Reexen Technology, National IC Innovation Centre, and the 9th World Drone Conference, which further increased their global exposure," the statement said.
According to SIDEC, these achievements not only commemorate the company's decade-long journey but also serve as a starting point for a new chapter that focuses on global collaboration, deep technological innovation, and building a sustainable digital economy.
SIDEC also expressed its commitment to continue to empower the country's new generation of entrepreneurs, technologists, and innovators, in line with Selangor's aspiration to lead Malaysia's transformation into a high-tech nation.
SIDEC is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Invest Selangor Berhad, established to drive the state's digital transformation through three main thrusts: e-commerce, startup development, and smart cities and digitalisation.
