Leaders Express Condolences Over Passing Of Muhammad Nur Manuty

KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar has conveyed his condolences over the passing of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) chairman Prof Datuk Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty, who passed away this morning.

Mohd Na’im said he grew up admiring Muhammad Nur as a scholar, preacher, and thinker who consistently upheld Islamic values through knowledge, discourse, and leadership, admitting that he is deeply affected by Muhammad Nur’s passing.

"Allahummaghfirlahu warhamhu wa'afihi wa'fu 'anhu. May his soul be showered with mercy and placed among the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, in a post on X, described Muhammad Nur as a respected figure in dakwah (Islamic propagation), Islamic scholarship, and thought, who had significantly contributed to increasing Malaysians’ understanding of Islam.

He said his death was a tremendous loss for the ummah and nation.

“My condolences to the family. I pray that they are granted the strength and patience to face this difficult time.

“May Prof Datuk Dr Muhammad Nur Manuty’s soul be blessed, forgiven of all sins, and placed among the pious,” he added.

Also extending his condolences on X was Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim, who described Muhammad Nur as a prominent figure in dakwah, an Islamic thinker, and an educator who consistently embraced wisdom and compassion in imparting knowledge and guiding the community.

Muhammad Nur, 76, died at 11.27 am at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital, Serdang. He was laid to rest at the Sungai Tangkas Muslim Cemetery in Bangi.

He was appointed IKIM chairman on May 8, 2023, and previously served as chairman of the Board of Directors at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) from Oct 1, 2018, to Sept 30, 2021.

On Jan 18 this year, Muhammad Nur was honoured with the highest award by the Muslim Converts’ Association of Singapore (MCAS) in recognition of his leadership and transformational contributions to the organisation.
