PUTRAJAYA, May 28 (Bernama) -- Tourists from six ASEAN countries, namely Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Vietnam and Timor Leste, are encouraged to use the autogate facilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 to facilitate the departure process from Malaysia.
The Home Ministry (KDN) in a statement today announced that the facility was implemented on Feb 15 in preparation for receiving an increase in the number of international tourists in conjunction with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 and Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
According to KDN, the move is in line with the MADANI government's aspirations in strengthening the public service delivery system that is efficient, fast and based on courtesy to the people and foreign travellers.
"This expansion also supports the spirit of inclusivity and regional cooperation, especially in strengthening diplomatic and tourism relations between Malaysia and ASEAN countries and Timor Leste," according to the statement.
Previously, the facility was provided to 63 countries including two ASEAN countries, namely Singapore and Brunei.
Exceptions are also given to passport holders from countries that are not equipped with chips, in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) requirements for security and technical compliance to enable the autogate system to verify identity accurately and securely.
