Batik Air Launches First International Route From Subang

KUALA LUMPUR, May 26 (Bernama) -- Batik Air is set to make history with the launch of its first international route from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang (SZB) to Bangkok on July 28, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to transform Subang into a dynamic city airport hub.

In a statement today, the airline said it will operate daily flights to Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport (DMK), alongside the launch of daily flights to Kuching International Airport (KCH) on the same date, further strengthening domestic connectivity from SZB.

Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the launch marks a new chapter, offering travellers the convenience of flying closer to the city while enjoying access to a growing regional network.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of Subang’s transformation into a modern, city-based hub. Bangkok is just the beginning.

“Subang offers a smart, time-saving alternative to KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport), and we believe it will play an increasingly important role in the future of Malaysian aviation. With Subang, we are bringing the world closer to the Klang Valley,” he said.

The statement noted that Subang’s proximity to urban centres such as Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Kuala Lumpur allows Klang Valley residents to enjoy fast and convenient departures and arrivals, avoiding the long commutes often associated with larger airports.

Operating seven times weekly, Batik Air said the SZB–DMK route is expected to appeal to Malaysian travellers drawn to the Thai capital’s vibrant culture, cuisine, shopping, and adventure.

Meanwhile, the SZB–KCH route will improve access to Kuching, the capital of Sarawak - a key centre for business, government, education, and tourism - while encouraging more West Malaysians to experience the rich cultural heritage and biodiversity of Borneo.

Batik Air also expects the new services to attract more visitors from Thailand and East Malaysia to discover the diverse offerings of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor - from royal heritage and ecotourism to theme parks, shopping, and culinary experiences.

The airline currently operates flights from SZB to Penang, Kota Bharu, and Kota Kinabalu. With the addition of Bangkok and Kuching, Batik Air now serves five key destinations from Subang.

“As Batik Air continues to expand its network, the revitalisation of Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang, signals a new era in city-based air travel - where convenience, connectivity, and comfort come together for the benefit of all travellers,” the statement added.
