Delegates Call On PKR To Rebuild Party Strength After Election

24/05/2025 12:48 PM

JOHOR BAHRU, May 24 (Bernama) -- Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) must immediately rebuild its strength after the central-level election to consolidate the people's faith in the party.

Perak PKR State Leadership Council Communications and Manifesto director Baldip Singh Santokh Singh said this is crucial because PKR is currently one of the main parties which had formed the Unity Government as well as leading several state governments.

"We must come together again as one team to fight the enemy outside, not inside (the party). (To those who lost in the election) don't sulk because we have a unity agenda which transcends all other issues in the party

"United we stand, divided we fall. Our consensus as PKR members is extremely important (to lead the government),” he said during the debate session on the motion of the president's keynote address in conjunction with the 2024/2025 PKR National Congress at the Persada International Convention Centre here today.

The debate session was attended by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Prime Minister, PKR Advisory Council chairman  Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and the party leadership lineup.

Meanwhile, Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Leadership Council member Khalid Imran Mas Ahmad Nasruddin hopes that the party leadership will not sideline those who lost in yesterday's election.

"Open your mind and space to the experience and energy of those who still want to contribute. Don't repeat our mistake of letting the party be split just because of differences of opinion. If we continue to fight among ourselves, how can the people trust us.

"We welcome views. We must rise again… stronger, more united and more aware of our responsibilities to the people in line with a paradigm shift and transformation towards MADANI Malaysia.

Other PKR members chipped in by stressing that the Malay adage "biduk lalu kiambang bertaut”, (people who oppose one another then make up later) is synonymous with the party. They included Kuala Terengganu Division chief Azan Ismail, Jelebu Division AMK deputy head Mohd Umry Abdul Khois and Indera Mahkota Division deputy chief Zukri Aksah.

In the official election results announced yesterday, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, won the president's post unopposed, while Nurul Izzah Anwar was elected as the new deputy president, replacing Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, who is also the Economy Minister.

The three incumbents - Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang -retained their positions as vice-presidents.

Deputy Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan was the new face who gained the delegates’ mandate to take on the role of vice-president, replacing Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim and Ampang Division head Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman, better known as Altimet, were also among the new faces who secured positions in the MPP this time.

The National Congress will end today with a winding-up session by the newly-elected party leadership.
