JOHOR BAHRU, May 22 (Bernama) -- The results of the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) central leadership council elections could be known as early as Friday night (May 23), party election committee (JPP) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said.
She said the outcome could be known during the policy speech by PKR President and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will officially open the PKR National Congress 2024/2025.
“If the results are ready, we will announce them on the same night, either after or during the President’s speech, God willing. Otherwise, the latest announcement will be by 2.30 pm on Saturday,” Dr Zaliha told reporters after briefing on the congress proceedings.
Also present were PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh, information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and JPP deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Kassim.
Regarding access to preliminary results, Dr Zaliha said only candidates and delegates will be able to view them.
She also expressed hope that internet connectivity would remain stable during the voting process to avoid disruptions.
“So far, there is no contest for the positions of President and Youth Chief, but other posts have active contests,” she added.
Meanwhile, Fuziah said 150 media personnel have registered to cover this year’s congress.
A total of 9,029 delegates will vote in person, including those from Sabah and Sarawak, while 13,060 delegates will vote online for the Central Leadership Council (MPP) positions
For the Wanita Leadership Council, 2,129 out of 8,558 delegates will vote physically, and for the Youth (AMK) Leadership Council, 3,375 out of 10,065 delegates will cast their votes in person.
Although no formal invitations were issued for observers due to limited space, Fuziah said the party welcomes their attendance.
The PKR National Congress will officially begin tonight at 8 pm with the opening of the Youth (AMK) and Wanita Congresses at Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, attended by Youth chief Adam Adli Abdul Halim, Wanita chief Fadhlina Sidek, and delegates from both wings.
Tomorrow, both wings will hold their congress sessions starting with policy speeches, followed by debates and closing remarks by their respective secretaries, deputy chiefs, and leaders.
Voting for the election of the MPP, the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK), and Wanita Leadership Councils will take place tomorrow from 8 am to 5 pm.
