KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) is set to enchant traditional Malay music enthusiasts with its upcoming Simfoni Budaya II concert, scheduled for July 5 at Dewan Filharmonik Petronas.

In a statement, the MPO said the performance follows the success of last year’s Simfoni Budaya I, which celebrated the rich heritage of keroncong and ghazal through orchestral arrangements featuring Datuk Yusni Hamid, Asmidar and Haziq Rosebi.

The Simfoni Budaya II concert will be conducted by Ahmad Muriz Che Rose.

The audience would be treated to the timeless charm of joget, asli, and zapin rhythms, brought to life by the MPO in a captivating fusion of timeless classics such as Dikirim Jangan Dipesan Jangan, Mas Merah, Fatwa Pujangga, Nirmala, Tudung Periuk, Simfoni Bunga Tanjung, Joget Burung Merpati, Makan Sireh, Joget Wan Lebor, and Mak Inang Kayangan, the statement read.

The songs have been specially arranged for orchestra by Luqman Aziz, Ilham Subri, Azhad Sulaiman, Teuku Umar and Shahakam Mokhtar.

The concert will feature a blend of veteran and emerging talents, including legendary artiste Datuk Andre Goh, who captured the nation’s heart with his mastery of asli Malay songs during the 1972 Bakat TV competition.

“He has performed at royal palaces nationwide and in Asian countries. His contributions over five decades earned him the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka in 2011, which carries the title ‘Datuk’.

“This concert marks his second appearance on the Dewan Filharmonik stage after his performance in Malam Melayu Klasik with the Johor Heritage Foundation in 2013,” the statement added.

Tickets, priced between RM179 and RM449, are available by calling 03-2331 7007, emailing boxoffice@dfp.com.my, or visiting the official MPO website at www.mpo.com.my.
