Bursa Malaysia Stays Higher At Midday On Improved Risk Appetite

KUALA LUMPUR, June 12 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia ended the morning session in positive territory as investors' risk appetite improved following the strong overnight rebound on Wall Street.

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) inched up 1.44 points to 1,680.97, from Thursday's close of 1,679.53.

The key index opened 5.34 points stronger at 1,684.87 and fluctuated between 1,679.72 and 1,685.39 throughout the morning trading session.

Market breadth was broadly balanced, although losers surpassed gainers 481 to 435, while 516 counters were unchanged, 1,271 untraded and 33 suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.71 billion shares worth RM1.06 billion. 

In a research note, Malacca Securities said positive sentiment following the strong overnight rebound in the US market will spill over into the local bourse today.

“While the FBM KLCI rebounded, its technical indicators are still suggesting weak momentum at this current juncture. Resistance is seen around 1,694-1,699, with support at 1,659-1,664,” it said.

Regionally, Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose 0.39 per cent to 5,007.63, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index added 2.56 per cent to 24,740.41, South Korea’s benchmark Kospi leapt 8.37 per cent to 8,413.92, and Japan’s Nikkei advanced by 3.71 per cent to 66,623.07. 

Among heavyweights, Maybank earned four sen to RM10.70, Public Bank was one sen higher at RM4.79, Tenaga Nasional was 12 sen better at RM14.42, CIMB improved five sen to RM7.35, and IHH Healthcare added four sen to RM8.71.

As for the active stocks, Zetrix AI advanced half a sen to 81.5 sen, Top Glove and Mega Fortris erased two sen each to 81 sen and RM1.59, respectively, while VS Industry and Velesto were unchanged at 20 sen and 30 sen, respectively. 

Of the top gainers, Nestle expanded 96 sen to RM95.46, Fraser and Neave added 76 sen to RM26.56, Petronas Dagangan accumulated 56 sen to RM18.28, Concrete Engineering perked up 36 sen to RM4.39 and Allianz Malaysia jumped 34 sen to RM20.90. 

Among top losers, Kuala Lumpur Kepong fell 38 sen to RM20.56, Paragon Union was 27 sen lower at RM4.39, Petronas Chemicals slipped 16 sen to RM5.64 and Vitrox was 16 sen easier at RM7.12. 

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index gained 13.03 points to 12,466.63, the FBM Top 100 Index added 11.89 points to 12,310.32, the FBM ACE Index accumulated 7.02 points to 4,678.78, and the FBM Mid 70 Index perked up 22.94 points to 17,935.36, while the FBM Emas Shariah Index slid 11.67 points to 12,432.07.

Sector-wise, the Financial Services Index gained 73.55 points to 19,577.21, while the Industrial Products and Services Index shed 0.92 of-a-point to 197.56, the Energy Index declined 5.44 points to 779.42, and the Plantation Index slipped 72.84 points to 8,732.99.
